Monday, Feb. 22nd @ 10:30 PM and Monday, Feb. 29th @ 4:00 PM

Ms. Gwendolyn Annette Duncan was interviewed as part of the Civil Rights History Project. She described her family history going back several generations and how they came to live in a segregated neighborhood in St. Augustine, Florida. She was a child during the civil rights movement and when she went with her family to see the Klu Kluk Klan march through her neighborhood she thought she was just witnessing a parade. She describes how conditions were little changed in her world even after Civil Rights Legislation was passed in the 1960s. She became active in paying homage to those who participated in the civil rights movements, organizing lectures and was spearheading an effort to create a Civil Rights Museum in St. Augustine. Ms. Duncan discussed how racial discrimination has remained a part of the city’s fabric until the present time.
