On this episode of Herndon Farmer’s Market, Tooran stops by Santa Cruz Produce’s stand at the Herndon Farmer’s Market to pick-up tomatoes, cucumbers and onion from Jose. In the studio, she later demonstrates how to make a salad shirazi. Also, Marla Vargas-Mundey from LAJ Foods stops by to talk about some of the soups she is selling at the market.

Episode Recipe: Salad Shirazi
Ingredients:
2 cucumbers
1 red onion or yellow onion
2 large tomatoes
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tea spoon fresh mint
lemon juice or balsamic vinegar to taste
dash of dry or fresh chopped basil
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Peel and dice cucumbers
2. Dice onion and tomatoes
3. In a large bowl mix all the ingredients together
4. Let sit for 5 minutes (or serve right away)
