Cybercrime Central – A Small Town in Romania
The Internet is still a growing market – especially for fraudsters. One especially virulent form of deceit is the use of fake escrow services. The scammers usually try to lure their victims with the promise of cheap electronic goods. But the wares “on offer” range from used cars to entire factories or even jet airplanes. One thriving center of international cybercrime is the remote Romanian town of Râmnicu Vâlcea. Often referred to as Hackerville, this is where numerous gangs of cybercriminals work together closely.
